Requirements

For IEC modification, you need the PAN of the person or business for whom the IEC was issued, a valid e-mail address, and a mobile number.

Statutory modification

The import-export laws say that a person needs to get an IEC modification online once a year under normal circumstances.

Voluntary modification

If there is a mistake in IEC or a change is needed in the import-export code, IEC needs to be changed right away.

Change in Business Address

If a business's address changes, it should be updated right away through the IEC modification online process.

Change in the company's name

If the name of the business firm or company changes, it should be updated with an IEC modification.

Adding or Deleting a Partner or Director

If a PAN is added or removed from a business, or if a partner or director is added or removed from a company, it should be updated.

What documents are needed to make changes to the IEC ?

For an IEC change, the following documents are needed:

1. The name and address of the person or business to whom the IEC was given;

2. A valid email address and phone number of the person

How long does it take to make changes on the DGFT portal ?
About 7–10 days are needed to change the information on the DGFT portal. Once the changes are made, DGFT will issue a new IEC certificate.
How do you change the IEC if you have an LLP or a company ?
In the case of a public or private limited company, limited liability partnership (LLP), or one-person company (OPC), we must first make changes to the IEC code on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal, and then we can make changes on the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) portal.
What happens if a mistake is made when registering for an import-export code ?
Under the new system, regulatory authorities (RAs) are now allowed to check the new import-export code after it has been put in place. If incorrect information is provided when registering for IEC, the applicant will be held legally liable. In this case, it is likely that the import-export code will be put on hold or canceled.
